This is a blankie I just crocheted for my friends’ soon-to-be-born baby.  I have sort of a love/hate relationship with crochet.  I love starting projects- the more complicated the better! but I find finishing them completely tedious.  Thankfully, this blanket was not especially torturous to make, AND I even like how it came out.  If you’re interested in making it, the pattern is called “Itsy Bitsy Spider Web,” and I found in Our Best Baby Afghans (Leisure Arts, 1996).  If you can’t hunt down that book, there is likely to be something similar on Ravelry which is a great resource for down-loadable knitting and crochet patterns, most of which are free.

Someday we’ll all be rich and thin. Until then let’s be pretty and fat.

Adele’s Rolling in the deep is a gorgeous song, and Adele is a gorgeous woman.  She is definitely my primary pretty/fat inspiration of the moment. I have a bone to pick with this video though- WHY DOESN’T SHE EVER GET OUT OF THE CHAIR?! My theory?  The director found a position that “minimized” and wanted to keep her in it.  Grrrrrr…

If you’re a “fatshionista” and you find yourself in Brooklyn,  I recommend heading to the court street boutique Lee Lee’s Valise.  The owner, Lisa Dolan, collaborates with designers to create exclusive pieces that are hip and modern that work on plus size bodies.    Lisa herself is usually there to help you pick out a dress (or three) and I find it hard to resist the amazing selection of handbags, jewelry and sunglasses.  They also have truly pretty bras in the upper range sizes.  The only downside is that you have to have deep pockets if you hope to  buy more than one or two pieces there a season….  Still, the trip is always worth it, even if it’s for a chance to see yourself in the mirror in stylish, well fitting clothes.
